Quality matters, but good equipment is not everything. Choosing best machine for permanent makeup is a real challenge for people who start their adventure with permanent makeup. After comparing the offers it turns out that on the market we have at least a few dozen devices to choose from. Cosmic speeds, allowing for extremely fast work, advanced programs, almost independently making beautiful make-up, processors sensing the thickness of the skin – you can be sure that after such a purchase a fast career is really possible… How true is that though? Is it possible to assume that the permanent make-up device is good enough to achieve the high quality of pigmentation? Let’s find out and look for best permanent makeup machine!
Best Permanent Makeup Machine – Quick Overview Table
Choosing Best Permanent Makeup Machine
Anyone who at the beginning of their career believes that the device determines the quality of pigmentation will inevitably be disappointed. Permanent makeup is an extremely demanding field in which the skill is gained over the years. It quickly turns out that the device is only a tool in our hands, and to perform the procedure professionally you need not only advanced equipment, but above all appropriate knowledge, technique and artistic imagination.
No one will be surprised by the fact that a makeup artist with extensive professional experience will do a much better makeup using poor quality equipment than a person without such experience using a “Mercedes” on the equipment market.
Even the best equipment in the hands of an irresponsible, insufficiently prepared person is not able to achieve the desired effect.
However, I don’t want to say that the quality of the device when doing permanent makeup doesn’t matter.
In fact, It does matter a lot!
The same specialist with extensive experience, working on the highest quality equipment, will feel the comfort of work, comfort of use, efficiency – the treatment will be performed faster and the pigment will stabilize in the skin better, with great precision. Working on a good device is faster, easier, more pleasant, and this affects the customer’s opinion about the treatment; the treatment is less painful and the skin heals faster.
The success is therefore a combination of pigmentation skills with good quality equipment. So how do you choose the right one, without letting yourself be fooled by aggressive marketing aimed at newcomers in the industry who are not yet aware of their needs? First of all, we should complete a good training, during which, in addition to the secrets of permanent makeup, we should be introduced to the possibilities offered by various equipment.
The tools of work seem to be crucial if we are to make a purchase in a moment that will allow us to use the skills gained during the training.
Best Permanent Makeup Machine – What To Know Before Buying
System of operation of the device
Micropigmentation devices are divided into needle-needle (needle + cap) and modular (cartridge) systems.
The idea of the needle system is that the needle is mounted directly in the handle with a special clamp. When it is installed in the handle of the device and a special cap is placed over it, usually finished with a matching needle guide, the needle becomes an integral part of the handle. This means that it is insensitive to the thickness and structure of the skin, works extremely evenly, does not slow down during work, and the depth of pigmentation depends solely on the gravity of our hand. Those who have not worked in this system before may have the impression that the needle works quite rigidly. However, this stability allows for precise, skin-free pigmentation.
Cartridge is, in simple terms, a needle that is encased in a special plastic construction and forms a single unit, a module that is mounted on the handle of the device. The module usually has a spring, which pushes the needle through the reciprocating movement of the special piston in the handle, making it move to allow pigmentation. Cartridge is mounted to the handle with a thread or “click” solution – the needle itself does not become an integral part of the device. That is why such a cartridge is not stable on the changing surface of the skin, which during pigmentation puts different resistance and requires from us a bit stronger work. The spring bends and the needle bounces off the skin. You have to be very vigilant because stronger work can cause an “umbrella effect”.
Pressing the needle against the skin, especially by beginners who don’t have a feeling yet, can overcome its resistance and penetrate deep into the skin with great power, which can ultimately cause too aggressive pigmentation. Generally speaking, the principle is that the needle device is operated slightly more gently than a modular device.
Both solutions have as much to do with each other as a gasoline engine for diesel. It all depends on what we use the device for and how we use it. There are probably as many supporters of an acupuncture solution as there are supporters of a modular one. Understanding the design of both systems allows you to make an informed choice when selecting best permanent makeup machine.

Differences in Needles
The devices in the needle system (needle + cap) have the ability to work on acupunctural needles. This means that we have many sizes of 1R needles – from 0.12 mm to 0.3 mm. A needle with a diameter of 0.12 mm is thin as a hair, very plastic, soft, has an almost microscopic tip. A needle with a diameter of 0.3 mm is already rigid. For different techniques and different skin thicknesses we use different sizes of 1R needles. We can pigment scars with the thinnest needles of 0.12 or 0.14 mm, we will perform the hair technique with 0.14 or 0.16 mm needles, shading of the mouth or eyebrows with 0.16 mm or 0.18 mm needles, but there are also those who will perform all techniques with a 0.3 mm needle.
In fact, it all depends on what we are comfortable with, what we like. The beautiful thing about pigmentation is that there are so many ways to do permanent makeup that everyone can follow their own, which will lead to a perfectly performed procedure that will please the eye both ours and our client’s. The cartridge system has a much smaller range of 1R needles, usually a classic “one” 0.3 mm thick and a needle with a mysterious-sounding name that promises a much more precise pigmentation through the name itself – nano, micro, hd, ultra and many other terms that try to characterize the extraordinary capabilities of this “super needle”.
However, the math is brutal and when comparing single acupuncture needles and single cartridge needles, the latter have no chance, given their diameter. From the manufacturers’ side, the top possibility is to design a 0.2 mm diameter cartridge needle. This involves the construction of a module, in which the action of a spring would cause the thinner needle to bend. Acupuncture in this combination is impressive – the thinnest needle has a diameter of 0.12 mm. The diameter is the only objective parameter to be followed for
choosing a needle.
However, manufacturers often mislead buyers by saying that the needle has a diameter of, for example, 0.16 mm. They do not specify, however, that the given diameter refers to the tip of the needle itself. While in the basic techniques of shading eyebrows or lips it does not matter much because in fact only the tip of the needle is used for the treatment, for example in head skin pigmentation or scar camouflage we work not only with the tip, but we go deeper into the skin and the diameter of the needle shaft is then of great importance.
Again, when comparing the two solutions, the most important thing is to understand the structure of the needles and to know how to make the most of them.
Single or multi-pointed needles?
Needle and modular needles have the possibility to install multi-pointed needles – 3R, 5R, 2F, 3F, 5F, etc., where the number indicates the number of needles in the bundle and the symbol R or F respectively round, if, is needles arranged round, if, is needles arranged flat. As a rule, multi-pointed needles are designed to saturate the treatment surface with pigment more quickly – is this really the case? The relationship is quite the opposite. The thinner the needle, the faster skin saturation with pigment.
A single needle is sharp, through its small diameter it enters the skin easily, this one does not resist. Pigmentation can be compared to the work of a needle in a sewing machine. Its stable movement allows, while maintaining certain rules, for precise saturation of the “material” with pigment.
When working with multi-pointed needles, we are dealing with the contact between two surfaces – the skin and the surface that the needles form (as we know from mathematics, 3 points are enough to create a surface). The pressure of a multi-pointed needle must be much stronger than a single needle to overcome the resistance of the skin.
Ultimately, the work of multi-pointed needles involves a kind of “peeling” of the skin, during which the pigment is much more dirty than it pigments the surface, and the quality of the pigment saturation of the skin after healing is usually much worse than after using a single needle.
I often hear considerations about the price when buying equipment. However, if the price is the main parameter on which we focus our attention, it may turn out that we face an unpleasant surprise in the future. What we should pay attention to is not even as much the cost of the equipment itself as the cost of the needles we will use in our daily work. So it is worth considering buying a more expensive device, with the possibility of working on really cheap acupuncture needles, than a cheap one, the exploitation of which is very expensive. Of course you can find on the cartridge market at a lower price. However, I advise against buying them. Poor quality of the needles may make the savings seem seem to be the only way to make them worse, as the quality of our services will eventually decrease. Why does the market convince us of the superiority of modular solutions over needles?
The cosmic speeds of the devices, which are so convincing for the manufacturers, are intended only for selected techniques. While they are great for practitioners with extensive professional experience to perform makeup requiring “higher school of driving”, such as eyebrows using the hair method, where during a very slow, stable hand work, we saturate the hair as linearly as possible in the shortest possible time (we use a permanent makeup device, such as the proverbial sewing machine, which punctures the place near the skin with great power), during the classic shading of eyebrows, lips or pigmentation of delicate eyelids – especially for beginners, high speed devices do not matter.
They shouldn’t even be used due to the lack of sufficient hand stability in people starting their career in this profession and the delicacy of the surface on which you work (read sensitive skin around the eyes). Techniques that give a gentle saturation of a given surface with colour, such as ombre, as popular today, most often consist in fast hand work and controlled rubbing of colour. Therefore, there is no need to use high speeds, since the hand movement is so fast that the skin has no chance to feel the device work
Warranty and Post-Warranty Service
Time is money. When a device breaks down and needs to be sent back to the service, and we do not have a replacement, we lose the opportunity to earn money. Stories about several months of waiting for the repaired equipment to be returned are not uncommon, that is why it is worth to find out before buying the device how much help and how quickly we can count on the seller in case of failure. The self-respecting and customer-oriented companies offer replacement equipment immediately.
High quality service is included in the price of the device and it should not come as a surprise that if we choose the cheapest equipment, something like service simply does not exist.
Perspective of Development
It is worth noting whether the choice of a lower quality device will not block or put off the possibility of performing more advanced micropigmentation treatments, such as scalp biopigmentation. The cartridge devices do not allow to obtain such realistic effects imitating growing hair as the treatment with a microscopic acupuncture needle.
A frequently raised issue among people starting their work as a linergist is the purchase of a cheap solution for a start and the exchange for better equipment once the business has started for good. The problem is that an unsuitable working tool may prevent the development of the company and the opportunity to buy a better device will never come up.
The focus on quality at the beginning gives much greater opportunities for development.
What Machine for Permanent Makeup should I buy?
Permanent makeup is becoming more and more popular among clients of beauty salons. Many women complain about the lack of time and rush to make up in the morning. Meanwhile, with permanent makeup we can highlight eyebrows, eyes and lips and save precious minutes every morning. Before deciding to do a permanent makeup, or buying best permanent makeup, it’s good to actually know what permanent makeup is.
This treatment is basically a form of tattoo – the beautician injects a biologically inert dye under the skin. Unlike a traditional tattoo, the dye is introduced shallower, because only to the second or third layer of the epidermis. Manufacturers of permanent make-up equipment and staff of beauty parlours convince that the procedure is completely safe and reliable. Although there are cases of uneven dye injections, which definitely spoil the intended effect, as specialists assure, these are single cases. So remember to choose a salon with experienced staff and the best equipment.
What kind of permanent make-up equipment should beauty parlours invest in?
There is quite a wide range of equipment on the market. Manufacturers offer modern design, a variety of housing colors, modern, light and thin work panels. However, these features should be of marginal importance when choosing, although they undoubtedly also affect the price of the equipment.
Most of the devices on the market today have a computer-controlled panel, although we can also find wireless devices, allowing for freedom during the procedure. The digital panel allows you to choose the appropriate needle frequency. It is an important element, because depending on the area and intensity of pigmentation, it is selected from 90-250 beats per second.
Wireless devices usually have a lower frequency: up to 190 beats per second. However, they do not require a permanent power supply, the battery provides about 90-120 minutes of uninterrupted operation.
Some devices operate continuously to ensure high precision and uniformity of dye application despite the different surface structure. The vast majority are nowadays additionally equipped with a dye leakage protection system from the pigmented area to the tip, thus guaranteeing hygiene during work. We can also find those that have a built-in low-power laser, accelerating the healing process after the treatment.
The pen method is also worth mentioning. It is used for permanent make-up of eyebrows. In other methods, punctures are made in the form of dots, one by one give the effect of “painted” eyebrows. The pen method creates a realistic look of a single hair. Eyebrows look much more natural after such treatment.
Best Permanent Makeup Machine – Bottom Line
It is worthwhile to be aware of the following factors when purchasing a permanent makeup device:
- the quality of the device,
- the cost of purchase,
- the cost of operation,
- the possibility of professional development,
Going on a journey, and especially to a faraway place, there is a very big difference between travelling with an agricultural tractor manufactured in Poland, a motorcycle manufactured in China, and a Mercedes-Benz made in Germany. Each of these vehicles can be reached, but only one of them can be reached quickly and comfortably, regardless of the weather. The supporters of acupuncture needles and supporters of cartridge modules sometimes praise and criticise each other’s systems. However, if we talk about the scale of possibilities and operating costs, the acupuncture system definitely wins here, just as the diesel engine is used by professionals to transport goods, because these engines have a much longer life and burn less.
However, if we are not professional drivers transporting goods, or if we are driving short distances, the cartridge system in our best permanent makeup machine is just as good as the acupuncture system.
