1. How To Store Makeup – First step – Get Rid of Unnecessary Products
The first thing you should do is to go through your entire makeup collection and get rid of anything you really don’t need. It’s a good idea to throw away anything you haven’t used in the past six months. Sure there are some things that you only wear on special occasions, but if you really aren’t going to wear it, it’s just taking up space.
If you feel bad throwing still useful makeup away, see if any of your friends want it. If not, there are always nonprofit organizations that will take it, such as Dress for Success.
Also make sure you get rid of, not donate, anything that has expired.
2. Organize
Once you are finished sorting through everything, separate all your makeup into piles by category, such as nail polish, blush, lipstick, lip-gloss, eyeliner, eye shadow, and mascara. Also separate all the products you use every day as opposed to ones that are less essential to your daily routine.
3. Group
Next, I like to group everything by color. It’s not necessary but it makes things easier to find. Also it helps you see what you have. You might find that you have a few identical shades of one product. This might make you go back to step one and get rid of some more excess items.
4. Store
Now, you are going to need a container to hold everything. I like to keep a small container on my bathroom counter to hold the products I use daily. This way they are easy to access and always all in the same place. I store my makeup in a small plastic cutlery tray, so everything stays organized.
My other, not as often-used makeup, is stored under the sink in individual plastic bins, all organized by product and color. You could also store your stuff in shoeboxes, empty paint cans, or a plastic craft or tackle box. There are many options and what works for you might not work for someone else. You can be as creative with how to store makeup as you are with your makeup on your face.
