Best Feminine Wash for Sensitive Skin – Basic principles of female intimate hygiene

As I mentioned at the beginning, everyday intimate hygiene is just as important as washing your hair, body or face. For it to be done properly, it is worth taking into account the most important recommendations of gynaecologists on how to wash the intimate area. The first and most important rule – the crotch should always be washed from the front to the back in order to avoid the transmission of bacteria in the anal area. We wash only outside, washing the perineum, vulva and anus. We avoid introducing any liquids or washing preparations into the vagina. The vagina cleans itself, and we should not interfere with it.

When washing the intimate zones of our body, we do it in a natural position, without having to extend our legs as much as possible. We do not scrub the vulva, perineum or anus – washing should be gentle so as not to irritate delicate skin. We do not use sponges, washers or gloves to wash intimate areas. Due to the possibility of bacteria accumulating on them, their use is not recommended.

Best Natural Feminine Wash – What to wash with?

Now let’s move on to the substance, i.e. the answers to the questions: what to wash intimate areas and is intimate hygiene fluid necessary? If this question had been asked a few decades ago, our grandmothers and great-grandmothers wouldn’t have known what it was about. For years, women have been washing their body’s intimate areas with water alone or with soap and water. And this way of washing is still recommended today, but it is worth remembering to use a delicate soap with a natural composition and in as little quantity as possible. This is because soaps have an alkaline reaction and the area around our intimate places is sour. For this reason it is also not recommended to use the same cosmetics for washing intimate areas as we use for washing our whole body. Speaking of an acidic vaginal pH, however, it is worth taking into account that we have in mind the inner part of female genitalia, i.e. the one we do not wash.

Why then shouldn’t we wash the crotch, vulva and anus areas with shower gel? Because sensitive and delicate skin can react badly to its ingredients, mainly SLS and SLES and fragrances. The same ingredients should be avoided in intimate hygiene fluids.

Is intimate hygiene wash necessary?

The use of intimate hygiene fluids is not necessary. However, many women cannot imagine washing their bodies in intimate places with water alone, so they use specialist preparations. However, they often make two basic mistakes – they do not pay attention to the composition of the intimate hygiene fluid and use it too much.

Intimate hygiene fluids available in shops and pharmacies often have a composition almost identical to that of shower gels. The only difference is that lactic acid or oak bark extract is added to them. Using such a liquid is practically the same as using a shower gel. Therefore, spending money on a cosmetic that we already have at home, but under a different name, is pointless.

The second issue is to use too much liquid or gel for intimate hygiene. To wash the vulva and perineum we literally need a little bit of liquid, the size of a pea. Liquid dosed in such an amount should be enough for us even for a year. If it ends after 2-3 months, it is a signal that you are using it just too much.

Liquid for intimate hygiene – use or not? How to choose a good liquid for intimate hygiene?Which intimate hygiene fluid to choose?

When deciding to use intimate hygiene fluid, pay attention to its composition. What should be included in it is, among others:

  • Lactic acid – one of the most important components of intimate hygiene products. It is responsible for maintaining the proper pH of the skin in intimate areas and maintaining the natural bacterial flora.
  • oak bark extract – soothes inflammation and infections.
  • Chamomile – has an anti-inflammatory, soothing and antibacterial effect.
  • lanceolate grandmother – soothes irritation, redness and burning.
  • marigold – a natural agent with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Just like camomile, it soothes and soothes.
  • Blueberry extract – has an antiseptic, moisturizing and refreshing effect.
  • betaine – cares for an appropriate level of skin hydration.
  • Panthenol – soothes irritations.
  • Plant glycerine – moisturizes the skin.
Aloe Vera – moisturizes, has an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect.
  • Allantoin – moisturizes the skin and has a soothing effect.

However, ingredients that should be avoided are:

  • strong washing agents (surface-active substances) such as: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Magnesium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate.
  • fragrances
  • dyestuffs
  • ethyl alcohol
  • formaldehyde and its derivatives
  • strong preservatives
  • parabens

To sum up, I have prepared a few more tips which are worth to be applied while taking care of the health of intimate places. Apart from proper hygiene of intimate places, it is worth to pay attention to what underwear we wear. Pants have direct contact with our skin, so it is worth to choose those that are made of delicate, natural fabrics. Cotton underwear will be a good choice, and the best one is made of organic cotton. It is also recommended not to wear very tight-fitting, tight pants all day long, and at night to let the skin breathe freely and sleep without panties. The health of women’s intimate places is also influenced by the lifestyle and our diet. It is also worth taking care of the appropriate selection of products for personal intimate hygiene, about which I wrote on the blog, in this article:

I hope that this entry has helped to organize your knowledge about everyday personal hygiene and intimate hygiene fluids. Let me know in the commentary if you use intimate hygiene products, how often do you use them, whats your best feminine wash for sensitive skin of choice and do you pay attention to their composition?
