You already have running shoes, shorts and a sweatshirt. Wondering what to buy next? Getting proper clothing not only will make you feel more comfortable, but also will help you keep going. In this guide will have a look at underwear, and try and find best underwear for women’s running. Let’s go!
Best Underwear for Women’s Running – My Personal Favs
Best Underwear for Women’s Running – Second Skin
As you can guess, comfort is the key. Underwear for running should first of all be well fitted to the body, be our “second skin”. This is important not only for freedom of movement, but also for proper function – the first layer we put on must wick moisture from the skin. This is only possible with a tightly fitting, elastic material. The selected T-shirt or bra should contain functional fibres such as Tactel®, CoolMax® or Nylcare®.
They provide comfort and an optimal thermal environment for our body. Another thing that speaks in favour of a particular underwear model is seamlessness. The lack of side seams solves the problem of pinholes and reduces the risk of abrasions.
Ladies should get an extra piece of clothing – a running bra. The one you use every day is not suitable to be worn during training. The sporty model must support the bust well and have shoulder straps of appropriate width, which will not stick to the skin. Shorts, thongs, and panties should be made of light, soft materials.
For the duration of intensive training, it is worth to give up cotton and choose a breathable polyamide. Lack of stitches will protect against irritation in intimate places, and models correcting the figure will give confidence to women not fully satisfied with their figure.
WARMTH AND COMFORT
For the cold, there is also something specially designed for all those who are freezing. Two-piece sets can contain live merino wool, which provides warmth especially on winter days. The simultaneous use of DryActive Plus fibres ensures that the body temperature remains constant without the risk of overheating.
Now you can reach for the right model of running underwear with full awareness, and you will feel the difference in training comfort at the earliest opportunity.
Running Underwear – the first layer
I suggest to start with the first layer, i.e. clothes that have direct contact with the skin – from underwear to running. Although invisible at the first glance, as for me they play the leading role when it comes to running gear. It’s the T-shirts, panties, boxers, bras and socks that protect the skin from abrasions and marks. Even if the layers applied successively play a model role (thermo-active fabrics will give out the heat generated by the body and the membranes will protect against wind or rain) and after the training your skin will blush with irritation, the running experience will still be negative.
Another thing is that the thermo-activity of other clothes will only work if the underwear also offers this functionality. Add to this that the first layer of clothing that adheres to the body best insulates against the cold during cold and windy runs. So what should you pay attention to when choosing your underwear?
Running underwear is primarily a perfectly fitted cut (a separate article could be written about brafitting and women’s running lingerie – fortunately, more and more sports shops in Poland have an ace in their sleeves in the form of staff able to choose a bra for a runner), breathability of the fabrics used, flat seams and possibly ventilation panels and bactericidal properties of the materials.
Other Handy Accessories For Running
Running thermal underwear (also ordinary) is extremely important and in my humble opinion it should be on the list of priorities of a person picking a running suit. What next? It already depends on our preferences, the season of the year, the specifics of the training and the clothes we already have. You know best what you need to add to your wardrobe. To conclude, I would like to draw your attention to the accessories that may hit the bottom of the shopping checklist.
Chimneys, hats, scarves, gloves or baseball caps during the summer season are all very important arguments in a runner’s waist. In some situations more important than another T-shirt or other kind of running leggings. Protection of the head, sinuses, eyes, throat and larynx are elements that we should take care of not only when the frost is crackling outside the window, but the accessories that make it possible should certainly not be marginalised when planning purchases.
Completing Your Running Outfit
In every runner’s life there comes a time when you have to invest not only in yourself but also in what you are wearing. Gaiters, chimneys, sweatshirts, hats, singles, running underwear, socks, jackets, membranes, thermo-active fabrics, unknown brands, new collections, producer’s patents with mysterious names… This galimatias does not make it easy to choose the right outfit for training. So let’s try to look at possible options and indicate what is worth investing in first.
The prosperity of a runner
Shelves in sports shops bend under the weight of everything we can throw into a common bag that bears the label “Running gear”. The market is a real beauty – from shoes, through electronic equipment and accessories, to a large range of clothing and thermo-laundry to running gear. Even the biggest malcontents, stereotypical blood and bones-only compatriots, have to admit that there is plenty to choose from. But sometimes prosperity can be problematic, especially for those who are just getting into running gear. They are helped by this article, which can serve as a compass in the process of completing a running suit.
Well, why do I use the word “process” when talking about running outfit selection? For a simple reason.
When we go out for training we can wear equipment worth even several thousand zlotys (assuming that we buy new things and run with a pulseometer). And you know that a single set of our gutter is not likely to end. Rarely anyone can afford to get a substantial amount of money out of their wallets and complete running gear in one stroke of a bank card. More often we buy in stages, depending on the immediate needs and possibilities of our budget. So what should we bet on first?
Before I answer this question, I will correct that today’s text concerns clothing for runners. I deliberately skip the thread of shoes, electronics or gadgets. Otherwise we would make a long elaborate out of it, which would be only a little easier to read than finishing the Sands Marathon. So let’s focus on clothes.
It’s not the robe that decorates a runner, though…
In my intermittent love affair with running, which has been going on for more than 12 years, I have never reached the stage where what I am wearing would in any way define me as a runner. Even the latest collections of top brands and the best running underwear will not make you a marathon runner. Unfortunately (or maybe it’s the staets), it doesn’t work that way. You have to take care of your form during training, not in the dressing room of a sports shop. It’s a sacred truth and old as the world. However, I have to admit that the thesis that a well-chosen outfit for running makes things much easier is equally true. The technologies used in running gear significantly increase the pleasure of training, or at least do not discourage further efforts. Let’s be honest with ourselves: a well-chosen running suit makes a difference.
From the basic commandments of completing a running suit it is worth remembering three principles. First, dress in layers, so that depending on the situation and the turns on, you can take off or impose another layer. The autopsy suggests that it is definitely better to put on a thin sweatshirt and a windcheater than one thicker sweatshirt. In winter, thermal running underwear works better than a woolen sweater. Secondly, invest in “breathable” fabrics. They allow moisture and heat to drain away through the skin more quickly, preventing overheating of the body and contributing to a better mood with intensive training units.
Besides, thermo-active clothes are practical – they dry quickly and usually take up less space than their cotton counterparts. Third, take care of the details. It’s a misconception that all T-shirts, leggings or hats must be practically the same. And although in fact, the different models of the subsequent wardrobe parts differ only in details, this is important for a running suit. Here the devil is definitely in the details. Cut, pockets, welts, zippers, types of seams, reflectors, ventilation panels, it all adds up to your running experience. So it is worth taking a close look at what we put in our wardrobe for your comfort and motivation for your next workout.
