Practicing for a job interview: the tools job seekers use
Job seekers can rehearse with an AI interviewer, drill coding questions or practice with a peer, for free or for up to $160 a month.

One way to prepare for a job interview is to practice answering questions out loud before the one that counts. Online tools offer that practice, with an AI interviewer that asks the questions and scores the answers, or with another person on the other side of the call.
Some of the ten tools below cover any job, some are built for software engineers facing coding interviews, and a few also offer help during a live interview, which raises its own questions. Some are free, some charge for each mock interview and some charge by subscription, in US dollars.
AI mock interviews for any job
Huru is an AI interview practice platform for more than 242 career roles. You answer real interview questions out loud, and Huru scores each answer on relevance, structure, specificity, impact and articulation, and tells you what to change. Every feature is free for job seekers, including unlimited mock interviews, the instant AI feedback report and a library of more than 50,000 questions; only the Enterprise plan for organizations is paid. The scores come from Huru's own AI model, so they are one system's view of a good answer.
Yoodli is an AI roleplay coach for interview prep, public speaking and communication. You practice your answers out loud with live AI roleplays and get feedback on them. The free Starter plan includes five practice sessions in total. Pro costs $8 a month billed yearly and gives up to 10 roleplays a week, live AI roleplays and feedback on recordings you upload. On both the Starter and Pro plans, your session data may be used to improve the platform.
Final Round AI runs AI mock interviews and puts its AI Mock Interview, an AI resume builder and a salary calculator in one dashboard. Its free plan includes practice interviews of all eight types. The yearly plan costs $25 a month, or $300 a year, and the monthly plan, at $90 a month, cannot be refunded.
LockedIn AI covers resume building, job search and interview prep, with full mock interviews that run on a desktop, tablet or phone with no download. Its free plan gives unlimited five-minute sessions, up to 60 minutes a day, but each session ends after five minutes with a one-minute pause before the next. Paid plans start from $29 a month.
Interview Sidekick offers AI interview practice with company-specific questions and mock interviews, and it also covers certification exam practice such as AZ-900, AWS and PMP. Its free version is a two-minute test of the live assistant with limited interview prep and question bank access. The listed price is $160 a month, shown at $80 with a code at checkout.
Coding interviews for software engineers
Technical interviews for software roles have their own set of tools, built around practice questions. LeetCode is an online platform for building coding skills and preparing for technical interviews, with more than 2,000 company interview questions. Its free questions and articles come with detailed solutions, and Premium, at $13.25 a month billed yearly, adds exclusive questions and articles from top companies.
AlgoExpert is a technical interview prep site for software engineers. It has 200 hand-picked coding interview questions with more than 100 hours of video explanations, written solutions in nine programming languages, a coding workspace, a data structures crash course and mock interviews. One year of All Access, covering all seven of its products, is $119, shown as a time-limited price against $693. Students with the GitHub Student Developer Pack get 20 questions free. Without AlgoExpert, you can join only one mock interview, through a link someone shares with you.
HackerRank Community offers AI mock interviews by voice or by chat, covering technical screens, coding, system design and behavioral interviews, and Prep Kits that work through interview preparation step by step. Personal reports track your performance and the areas to improve. One Software Engineer coding mock interview and one Technical Screen mock interview are free, each taken once; the others need credits.
Practicing with a person
Two of the tools put a person, rather than an AI, on the other side of the call. Pramp is a free platform where software developers practice live technical interviews with each other, taking turns to play the interviewer and learning from each other's feedback. Practice covers algorithms, system design, product management, behavioral, frontend and data science interviews, though it is for technical interviews for software engineering roles. Since July 2024, new Pramp sessions run on Aced Practice.
Interviewing.io lets software engineers practice technical interviews anonymously, in a low-pressure setting, with paid mock interviews run by engineers. It covers coding, system design, machine learning and behavioral interviews. Mock interviews start at $179 each, and the price depends on the subject and on whether you ask for an interviewer from a specific company. Interviews are voice only, with no video. For practice without paying, it also has a free AI interviewer for coding and system design.
Help during a live interview
Three of these tools go beyond practice. Final Round AI gives real-time help on screen during a live interview, with answers built from your resume, the job description and the role you want; live help, its Stealth Mode and automatic debriefs need a paid plan. LockedIn AI gives real-time AI answers during interviews and meetings. Interview Sidekick describes itself as an assistant for before, during and after an interview, with answer suggestions and talking points while questions are asked; unlimited session time, unlimited AI answers and the desktop app need a paid subscription.
Using one of these in a real interview is a different matter from using it to practice. Check what an employer allows before using one in a live interview.
Free, per interview or by subscription
The pricing models differ enough to change the choice. Huru and Pramp are free for job seekers. HackerRank, Interviewing.io, Final Round AI, LeetCode, LockedIn AI and Yoodli have free tiers or free practice alongside paid options. Interviewing.io charges for each paid mock interview, HackerRank uses credits, and AlgoExpert sells a year of access in one payment. Yoodli, LeetCode, LockedIn AI, Final Round AI and Interview Sidekick charge by subscription, from $8 a month on Yoodli's yearly plan to $160 a month listed on Interview Sidekick.
For general interviews, a free AI tool such as Huru, or a few sessions on Yoodli's Starter plan, covers the basic job of answering out loud and getting feedback. For coding interviews, the question bank and the explanations matter more, and LeetCode, AlgoExpert and HackerRank are built around them.
