Finding work in the UK: where job seekers look

General boards such as Reed, Indeed and Totaljobs sit alongside sites for the NHS, the Civil Service, charities and finance, and nearly all of them are free to job seekers.

Job hunting in the UK can mean keeping several sites open at once. The general boards carry jobs in every industry and region, while the public sector, charities and some professions have sites of their own.

The fifteen sites below fall into four groups: the general boards, the sites built around salaries and company reviews, the public sector sites, and the boards for one field or one kind of employer. Most are free for job seekers, so the differences are in the kind of jobs each one carries, how big it is and the tools it offers, such as job alerts, CV upload and salary pages. Live job counts change every day.

The general boards

LinkedIn Jobs is the job board inside the LinkedIn professional network and carries millions of jobs. Some use Easy Apply, so you apply on LinkedIn itself; others send you to the employer's own website.

Reed lists vacancies from private and public sector employers and recruitment agencies, and it is free to register and use; more than 100 million people use it each year. Registered users get email job alerts, apply for vacancies, manage their applications, build a profile and store a CV online. Indeed, run by Recruit Holdings, is a general job site for every kind of work in more than 60 countries, with 685 million job seeker profiles worldwide. Job seekers can search jobs, post a CV and research companies before they apply.

CV-Library calls itself the UK's leading independent job site, with jobs across all industries, and has 22.3 million CVs registered. It was founded by Lee Biggins, who is still its chief executive.

Two of the general boards belong to the same group, The Stepstone Group UK. Totaljobs covers every industry and location. Its matching reads your profile and career preferences to send job recommendations and instant alerts, and its career advice covers CVs, cover letters and interviews. Jobsite, founded in 1995, carries permanent, temporary and part-time jobs, more than 120,000 of them, to 7 million candidates a month. It sends job matches by email and job alerts by text or email.

Adzuna is a job search site for jobs in London, the UK and beyond, with tens of millions of visitors a month. You can also upload your CV and find out what you should be earning.

Salaries and company reviews

Glassdoor pairs open jobs with employee reviews of companies and salary data, and job seekers never pay. With an account you can save jobs, set job alerts and upload your CV to apply in a few clicks. Together with Adzuna, where you can find out what you should be earning, it is one way to see what a role pays before an interview.

Public sector jobs

Parts of the public sector have their own job sites. NHS Jobs is the job site for jobs in the NHS, run by the NHS Business Services Authority, with about 20,000 job postings a month. You can start with jobs by email and quick search, or use the advanced search to narrow the results.

Civil Service Jobs is the recruitment site for the UK Civil Service, run by the Cabinet Office. In 12 months it had four million users and 195,000 job postings, and it handled one million job applications, all made through the site itself.

GOV.UK Find a Job, the government's job search service, now sits inside Work Hub, a new GOV.UK service in beta. Alongside the job search, it has an AI work assistant, a CV builder and an action plan.

Boards for one field

eFinancialCareers is a job site for financial services and technology jobs, such as banking, finance and compliance roles, and it showed 71,303 jobs in October 2026. You can create a job alert for new roles that match a search.

Welcome to the Jungle, the job site that used to be called Otta, lists jobs at companies from startups to tech giants: more than 3,500 companies and more than 70,000 live jobs. It is free for candidates, who can search for jobs and talk with employers about openings through its website and app.

CharityJob brings together people looking for work and employers in the charity sector. It is free for candidates and showed 1,619 jobs in October 2026. As well as paid jobs, it has a volunteering section and filters for remote or hybrid work.

Guardian Jobs is the Guardian newspaper's job site. You can get personalized job recommendations by email, upload your CV so employers can match you to their jobs, and read Guardian Careers advice.

Your CV and job alerts

Most of these sites can hold a CV and send job alerts. Reed lets registered users store a CV online and get email job alerts. Indeed takes a posted CV, Glassdoor uses an uploaded CV to apply in a few clicks, Adzuna takes a CV upload, and Guardian Jobs uses an uploaded CV so employers can match you to their jobs. Totaljobs reads your profile and career preferences to send recommendations and instant alerts, Jobsite sends alerts by text or email, and eFinancialCareers sends alerts for new roles that match a search. For anyone without a CV, the GOV.UK Work Hub has a CV builder.

Some of the boards also share owners. Totaljobs and Jobsite both belong to The Stepstone Group UK, and Indeed is run by Recruit Holdings.

Using more than one site

Because nearly all of these sites are free, a job seeker gives up little by using several. Someone who works in one field can pair a general board such as Reed, Indeed or Totaljobs with that field's own site: NHS Jobs for health, Civil Service Jobs for government, eFinancialCareers for finance, CharityJob for the charity sector.

Setting the same job alert on two or three sites brings new roles in as they appear, and a CV stored on Reed, or uploaded to Indeed, Glassdoor or Adzuna, is ready for the next application.
