Startup Island TAIWAN-supported startups held more than 100 one-on-one meetings at the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego, California, from June 22 to 25. The six-company delegation, led by the Development Center for Biotechnology through the Taiwan-Berkeley Health Innovation Accelerator, met pharmaceutical companies, investors, industry partners and research organizations. Discussions covered licensing, co-development, distribution, fundraising and clinical collaboration. The group represented fields including AI reproductive health, cancer therapies, organoids, vaccines and antibody technology.

Six Companies Join Delegation

The delegation included AB DigiHealth, AcadeMab Biomedical, PlasmonicTron, Taiwan Universe BioMedicine, CancerFree Biotech and Precisemab Biotech.

AB DigiHealth develops icONE, a reproductive health product that combines embryo genomic data and maternal health parameters to predict embryo implantation potential. At BIO 2026, the company explored strategic partnerships and distribution opportunities for its AI reproductive health solutions.

AcadeMab Biomedical is developing cancer therapies aimed at cancer stem cells and tumor recurrence, including its AM-928 candidate for solid tumors. Its meetings covered licensing, co-development, fundraising and international collaborations.

Partnership Talks Across Biotech

CancerFree Biotech discussed distribution, licensing and drug-development applications for its AI-enabled organoid technology. Its Ex Vivo Avatar platform produces patient-derived tumor organoids from blood samples for personalized drug testing, while its Prometheus Lab system supports precision treatment decisions, biomedical research and drug development.

PlasmonicTron met pharmaceutical companies, Contract Research Organizations and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations to discuss organoid applications, manufacturing scale-up and commercialization. The company provides AI-enabled infrastructure designed to standardize and automate organoid production using microfluidics, automation, imaging analytics and data-driven quality control.

Taiwan Universe BioMedicine held talks with pharmaceutical companies on vaccine co-development and strategic partnerships. It develops vaccines for enterovirus and influenza, with platforms intended to offer broader protection, improved safety and lower manufacturing costs than conventional vaccines.

Antibody Platform Draws Interest

Precisemab Biotech received interest in its Universal Antibody Lock™ platform, with conversations focused on licensing, clinical collaborations and next-generation antibody therapeutics. The technology is designed to activate antibodies within tumor or disease microenvironments and can be applied to monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates and autoimmune therapies.

The delegation used BIO 2026 to hold discussions on strategic partnerships, technology commercialization and international market expansion across several biomedical specialties.
