Contrario has officially launched its AI recruiting platform after reaching $6 million in annualized revenue and paying more than $1 million to recruiters in under six months. Built by Stanford dropouts Arya Marwaha and Aditya Sood, the company combines expert recruiters with AI agents that handle operational hiring work. Contrario says more than 200 companies, including Slash, Wispr Flow, and Listen Labs, use the platform. The company has also closed a $2.3 million seed round led by Nexus Venture Partners.

Recruiter Networks With AI Agents

Contrario is designed for companies that want to speed up hiring without adding more standalone tools to their hiring stack. It integrates with a company’s Slack and applicant tracking system, or ATS, to automate coordination, interview scheduling, and follow-ups.

The platform pairs a network of hundreds of recruiters with AI agents built for hiring. Contrario says the agents take on repetitive work during searches, allowing recruiters to focus on finding candidates and closing hires.

“Hiring isn't about seeing more candidates, it's about finding the right ones. The problem is most teams are buried in admin work instead of evaluating talent. We built Contrario to help both companies and recruiters surface high-quality talent and take the rest off their plate.”

Early Results And Recruiter Pay

Contrario says companies using its service receive high-quality candidates three times faster than traditional agencies and platforms, with candidate pipelines filling in days rather than weeks. The company reports an 80% first-round interview rate, meaning four out of five submitted candidates meet a company’s hiring bar.

For recruiters, Contrario says top earners make more than $100,000 per month. The platform has paid out more than $1 million to recruiters so far.

“We are seeing a clear shift. Companies want speed and efficiency. Recruiters want responsiveness and real opportunity. We built Contrario to deliver both.”

Built From Recruiting Experience

Marwaha and Sood met in their freshman dorm at Stanford University before leaving their master’s programs to work on Contrario full time. Before starting the company, Marwaha bootstrapped another startup to six-figure annual recurring revenue, worked at BCG, and led research at Stanford HCI. Sood conducted NLP research at NASA and published through Stanford AI Lab and Anthropic.

In Contrario’s early days, the founders worked as recruiters themselves. The experience included managing searches through WhatsApp threads, emailed PDFs, and spreadsheets.

“Founders should be spending their time pitching the company, evaluating talent, and closing great hires. Not managing the process around it.”

Who Contrario Is For

Contrario is aimed at founders, executives, and hiring teams that want recruiters and software in one service. The platform’s model is built around using AI agents for logistics and repetitive tasks while recruiters handle candidate relationships and judgment calls.

Founders and hiring leaders looking to spend less time on logistics and more time hiring the right people can learn more through Contrario’s website.
