Shrub Oak International School has launched the Kind Cup Coffee Shop, an on-campus internship where students run a coffee cart for school team members. The program gives students structured practice in job readiness and vocational skills, from serving customers and preparing drinks to tracking supplies. It is designed for students to learn in a familiar, supportive school setting while contributing to campus life. Weekly offerings include espresso drinks and rotating specialty beverages.

Work Experience on Campus

The Kind Cup gives student interns responsibilities modeled on workplace routines. They greet customers, fulfill orders, prepare beverages, monitor supplies, and follow opening and closing procedures.

Each task comes with clear instruction, repetition, and staff support. The school says this approach helps students build confidence, communication skills, and professionalism over time.

“The Kind Cup was created to give students an authentic work experience right here on campus. Our goal is to help students discover their strengths, practice real job skills, and feel pride in contributing to something that connects them with others. The program has been especially impactful in helping students experience the satisfaction that comes from meaningful work and positive engagement with staff.”

Menu Builds Service Skills

The coffee cart’s menu is intended to remain accessible for student learners while giving interns variety in their work. Weekly drinks include espresso options, rotating specialty beverages, seasonal flavors, and themed selections.

Menu changes give students chances to practice flexibility, respond to different orders, and take part in the creative side of workplace operations.

Preparing Students for Next Steps

Kind Cup is part of Shrub Oak International School’s transition planning for students preparing for adulthood. The internship combines vocational training with a role in the school community, helping students build independence before future internships, volunteer placements, and employment opportunities beyond Shrub Oak.

The program offers a practical route for students to try workplace responsibilities with consistent support, while giving staff a coffee service during designated cart hours.
