Deakin University GIFT City Campus has opened applications for its new Master of Applied Artificial Intelligence (Professional), with its first cohort scheduled for July 2027. The postgraduate program will be delivered on campus in Gujarat, India, and is recognized at Australian Qualifications Framework Level 9. It is aimed at graduates and experienced professionals seeking specialist AI skills, with a limited inaugural intake planned. The course adds applied AI to Deakin’s postgraduate offerings at GIFT City.

AI Skills Across Technical Fields

The Master of Applied Artificial Intelligence (Professional) uses the same academic and admissions framework as Deakin’s equivalent Australian program. Its curriculum covers machine learning, deep learning, AI engineering, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, speech processing, reinforcement learning and human-aligned AI.

Students will also take part in professional practice, team projects and research. The program is professionally accredited by the Australian Computer Society.

“As artificial intelligence reshapes industries and careers, Deakin is bringing world-class AI education to GIFT City to develop the specialised talent and expertise needed for the future global workforce. This programme reflects our long-term commitment to India and our belief in the country's growing leadership in technology and innovation.”

Entry Routes for Graduates

Applicants can apply with a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline, including information technology and related fields. Graduates from any discipline may also be considered if they have at least two years of relevant work experience, or the part-time equivalent, subject to Deakin’s admissions requirements.

The program is intended for computing graduates as well as professionals with relevant experience from other academic backgrounds. Deakin lists possible career paths in machine learning engineering, AI solutions development, AI architecture, natural language processing, AI product management, intelligent automation and AI-led innovation.

“AI is no longer a niche specialisation. It is becoming a foundational capability across business, technology and society. This programme combines advanced technical knowledge with practical application, preparing graduates to solve complex challenges and contribute meaningfully to the future of innovation. Its launch further strengthens Deakin GIFT City's role in developing industry-ready talent for India and the global economy.”

Expanding Postgraduate Programs

The new degree joins Deakin’s Master of Business Analytics and Master of Cyber Security (Professional) at GIFT City. Applications are open for the July 2027 intake, which will begin with a limited number of students to support academic engagement, industry connection and personalized learning opportunities.
