The Tennessee Department of Transportation has selected Altitude by Geotab for a four-year statewide transportation data contract. The agreement gives TDOT access to commercial-vehicle mobility analytics for travel demand modeling, freight movement planning, and infrastructure modernization. Procured through the Eastern Transportation Coalition, the deal covers Altitude’s full analytics portfolio. TDOT plans to use the data to examine freight bottlenecks, highway corridor flows, and demand at 15 rest areas identified for upgrades or potential new construction.

Commercial Vehicle Analytics

Altitude by Geotab provides TDOT with high-resolution mobility data focused on commercial vehicles. The state will have access to Road Traffic Analytics, Stop Analytics, Vehicle Miles Traveled Analytics, Origin-Destination Analytics, and AADT tools.

“Modernizing Tennessee’s transportation infrastructure requires precise, real-world data on commercial freight movements and traffic patterns across our key corridors. Altitude by Geotab delivers commercial vehicle origin-destination matrices, truck parking demand analytics, and corridor flow data at a level of granularity that will significantly enhance our Travel Demand Model calibration, freight bottleneck mitigation, and strategic corridor planning across the state.”

Road And Rest Area Planning

TDOT will use the platform’s commercial vehicle origin-destination matrices, vehicle miles traveled by vehicle class, and trip-generation data to calibrate and validate its statewide travel model. The agency also plans to analyze delay-minutes per truck at critical Tennessee interchanges by time of day.

For major corridors, TDOT intends to conduct Segment Flow OD analysis for pre-deployment baselines and post-construction impact evaluations. The rest area work will assess dwell times, demand curves, and capacity stress indicators at the 15 identified locations.

Broader Tennessee Deployment

The contract follows TDOT’s adoption of Geotab fleet management technology across its operational state vehicles. The two agreements cover fleet operational management and transportation planning for the state.

For TDOT, the new Altitude deployment is designed to provide detailed commercial vehicle information for statewide travel modeling, freight movement planning, and highway infrastructure decisions.
