Helcim Raises $53 Million CAD Series C
Helcim raises $53 million CAD Series C funding to grow its payments platform for more than 22,000 small and mid-sized merchants.

Helcim has raised $53 million CAD in Series C financing, lifting its valuation to $250 million CAD as it expands its payments platform for small and mid-sized businesses. The round was led by Business Development Bank of Canada‘s Growth Venture Fund, with new investment from Curql Collective and Gold House Ventures, alongside existing backers. Helcim says it has now raised $100 million in equity since its 2022 Series A. The Calgary company also reported more than 22,000 active merchant customers across Canada and the U.S., $150 million in annual recurring revenue, and nearly $10 billion in expected annual payment volume.
Funding Supports Platform Growth
Helcim provides payment and software tools including point of sale, invoicing, online checkout, smart terminals, and embedded payments. The company says its platform is designed for businesses that accept payments in person and online, with volume-based interchange-plus pricing rather than flat-rate fees.
The company plans to put the new funding toward its payments platform, its team, and additional financial services for merchants. It is also expanding work with regional banks and credit unions seeking a payments option for their small business members.
“There's a real void in the market right now - merchants are coming to Helcim faster than ever, looking for a modern alternative. This round lets us act on this at scale: expanding our platform, growing our team, and moving up-market so no business outgrows what we can offer them.”
AI Integration Tool Adds Choice
In January 2026, Helcim released an AI Payment Extension that allows merchants to integrate Helcim’s processing into software they already use. The company says the tool is intended to let merchants select their payment processor rather than remain tied to one embedded-payments provider.
Helcim launched as an independent payments company in 2020 and built its own end-to-end infrastructure rather than reselling another processor’s technology. The company says adoption of the Payment Extension has grown quickly since launch.
“Helcim is having a unique moment, growing fast and building a real advantage in the market. Their recent AI-powered integration tool is a good example of the kind of fast-moving innovation we're backing, and exactly what it will take to capture that opportunity.”
Credit Union Partnerships
Curql Collective, a strategic investment fund backed by more than 160 North American credit unions, joined the round as a new investor. Helcim is targeting partnerships with institutions moving away from traditional merchant-services providers.
“Credit unions need to continue to upgrade their product offering for their small business members in the communities they serve if they want to remain relevant, compete and retain deposits. Helcim's payment hub is the best we have seen and their value proposition for the CUs is far more robust than what is currently in market.”
A Larger Merchant Base
The financing follows a year of expansion for Helcim, which grew its team to 200 people and increased its valuation from $97 million CAD at its 2024 Series B. For small and mid-sized businesses, the company’s offer combines payment acceptance tools and customer service with pricing it says is transparent.
