Research Solutions has launched Scite MCP, an integration that connects AI tools including ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code to scientific literature. The tool gives researchers and developers access to more than 250 million indexed articles, book chapters, preprints, and datasets from within MCP-enabled applications. It is available now to paid Scite subscribers, with Open Access content included at launch.

Evidence Inside AI Workflows

Scite MCP is designed for researchers using AI for writing, analysis, coding, and literature reviews. It brings Scite’s Smart Citations into supported AI tools, showing whether later research supported, mentioned, or contrasted the findings in a cited paper.

That citation context is intended to help users check the basis for an AI-generated answer rather than rely on unsourced claims. Research Solutions says the integration can return answers backed by specific papers that users can verify.

“Researchers are already using AI tools every day - for writing, analysis, coding, and literature review. The problem is that these tools can't tell you which findings are well-supported and which have been contradicted. By connecting Scite's Smart Citations directly to the tools people already use, we're closing that gap.”

Josh Nicholson, Chief Strategy Officer at Research Solutions and co-founder of Scite

Access and Publisher Plans

The integration currently provides access to Open Access articles. Research Solutions is working with publishers to bring paywalled content into Scite MCP, using Scite as an MCP gateway for controlled AI access to their articles.

Scite is an AI research platform available as a web platform, browser extension, and Zotero plugin. Its Smart Citations technology analyzes the full text of citing articles to classify how subsequent research treats earlier findings.

A Tool for Research Users

For researchers and developers who already work in AI applications, Scite MCP offers a practical route to search scientific literature and review citation context without switching tools. The service is aimed at paid Scite subscribers who need research answers connected to sources that can be checked.
