UEI Student Pursues Electrician Career
UEI College Huntington Park student Anthony Jimenez is pursuing electrician training after his post-graduation job search stalled.

UEI College in Huntington Park is training Anthony Jimenez in its Electrician Technician program after his job search following high school graduation in 2024 stalled. The 10-month program combines two days of online study with two days of on-campus lab work each week. Jimenez chose electrical training for its troubleshooting and hands-on work. He is now working toward an entry-level apprenticeship, with longer-term plans to become a journeyman and open a business.
A Shift Toward Trade Training
Jimenez expected to find steady work after graduating high school, but spent months without job offers. A social media video prompted him to research trade schools and led him to UEI College.
“It was a pretty rough year. I just wasn't getting accepted for any jobs.”
He initially considered HVAC training before selecting the electrical field. The prospect of completing the program in 10 months also suited his goal of beginning a career quickly.
“I personally like troubleshooting. And electrical is really hands-on. I could see myself doing it for the rest of my life.”
Hands On Electrical Skills
“I didn't know anything about electrical when I started. They pretty much taught me everything from the start.”
Plans After Graduation
As he approaches the end of his modules, Jimenez plans to seek an entry-level apprenticeship. He aims to become a journeyman within three years, then pursue a contractor’s license and eventually start his own business.
“Going back to school was the best option for me. It's never too late to start. As long as you put your effort into it and make sacrifices, it'll be worth it in the end.”
From an announcement by UEI College.
