Temu has joined Italy’s VER.O, or Verifica l’Originale, initiative with consumer rights group CODICI, becoming the first e-commerce marketplace in the program. The project encourages shoppers to report products they suspect are non-authentic or non-compliant, with reports routed through CODICI’s digital tools to participating partners. VER.O is funded by Italy’s Ministry of Business and Made in Italy and involves the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, Guardia di Finanza and ICQRF. Temu and CODICI will also provide guidance on spotting potential issues and requesting help.

Reporting Through CODICI

The program gives consumers a route to flag suspected counterfeit or non-compliant products. CODICI collects those reports through its digital tools and sends relevant cases through dedicated, fast-tracked channels established with partners including Temu.

“Digital commerce offers incredible convenience, but it must be built on a foundation of safety, transparency, and consumer awareness. Our collaboration with Temu through the VER.O project represents an important step in deepening our ongoing partnership, and strengthening the connection between consumers and digital platforms.”

Ivano Giacomelli, National Secretary of CODICI

Consumer Education Plans

CODICI and Temu plan to share practical guidance on indicators of non-compliant goods, how to submit a report and how to seek assistance through CODICI’s consumer channels. The work covers education as well as reports after a potential issue has been identified.

“At Temu, we are committed to working with trusted partners to strengthen consumer awareness and improve how potential issues are identified and resolved. Our participation in the VER.O initiative reflects our ongoing efforts to support responsible digital commerce and contribute to broader ecosystem collaboration on product integrity and the protection of local brands.”

Broader European Outreach

The CODICI collaboration is part of Temu’s work with consumer protection groups, trade associations, chambers of commerce and investment bodies across Europe. The platform held more than 100 meetings and took part in 30 conferences during the first half of 2026.

Temu also works with the International Trademark Association and its Anti-Counterfeiting Committee, and has signed a memorandum of understanding with the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition on intellectual property protection and online counterfeiting.

A New Reporting Route

For Italian shoppers, VER.O adds a structured route for raising concerns about product authenticity and compliance. For Temu, the partnership puts the marketplace inside a national program focused on consumer awareness, reporting tools and safer online purchasing practices.
