As per on-the-road test above, our overall winner is HJC RPHA MAX. Although it’s not the quietest motorcycle helmet in lower speeds, it clearly wins win all the other helmet in speed range of 60 mph and above.

HJC RPHA MAX
I have travelled about 5 thousand kilometers in it, and in my opinion it is a good choice amongst the “jaw” helmets.
This HJC helmet is carefully made of composite materials, quite light for this type of helmet, nice and comfortable upholstery made of antibacterial fabric, pinlock, nose, chin and blender included. It lies perfectly on my head. It does not compress or tire the head even after a few hours of non-stop driving. Wide field of the viewfinder, almost entirely covered with a pinlock, perfectly working. Very clever locking and tightening mechanism, placed in the middle, so you can operate it with your left or right hand. After closing all inlets and tourist speeds it is relatively quiet. When you open the inlets, the ventilation feels clear, and it gets much louder.
From the downside:
The strap bends your neck too much, especially when you bend your head to see the meter and lights. An efficient “nose” limits the width of the viewfinder field. There are occasional knocks of an abandoned blindfold when driving at very low speed on a bad road, but this problem does not occur in completely different conditions.
Generally it is a very well made, designed and made tourist helmet. After two seasons, there is no wear and tear on the helmet, which is proof of good quality materials, assembly and construction. In this respect it certainly does not give way to strongly overrated helmets, brands on “S” 🙂 And it is also much cheaper.
I’ve ridden different motorcycles in AGV GT Open, Bell Revolver Evo, Shoei Qwest, Shark RSV and some Caberg. Each of them has advantages and disadvantages, but the most advantages and the least disadvantages, has just HJC R-PHA Max Evo.
Schubert C3 Pro
The long-awaited successor to the well-known and beloved Schubertch C3 – C3 Pro helmet came to our editorial team at the beginning of the season and we had many opportunities to see if he could meet the high demands set by his predecessor.
Quality of workmanship
the C3 was already an extremely robust helmet, and the C3 Pro seems to be even better made. Everything fits perfectly, when the visor is closed all parts remain tight and closed, nothing crackles. Only when driving with the jaw raised does the blender sometimes tend to flutter, but first of all, you don’t drive too often in this way and secondly, it’s not annoying enough to spoil the operation. After several thousand kilometers, in various conditions on the helmet you can’t see any signs of wear or damage and scratches. None of the elements got loose, stretched (helmet clasp) or destroyed, and the C3 Pro was tested often in extreme conditions (including on the Poznan track). Simply quality typical of Schuberth.
Quiet and tight
If the helmet is not tight and the wind blows in, I am a loser. Fortunately, in C3 Pro everything works the same way as in C3, which is good. After closing (closing) the glass inside does not blow, it is quiet and dry. Helmets from this manufacturer have a specific advantage, they perfectly suppress the sound of wind, which is mega annoying, but allow you to hear the sound of the engine. To tell you the truth, there hasn’t been much to improve on this since the C3. A lot of changes have taken place in terms of helmet ventilation. First of all, the opening of the inlet at the top of the helmet no longer allows a stream of cool air to enter, but distributes it over the top of the head in a diffuse, softer way. Very comfortable and thoughtful. The jaw flap works in a similar way, which also “calmly” ventilates the front of the helmet. This gives the impression of sitting in an air-conditioned car and is really pleasant when the temperature pole stops at around 35 degrees, which has recently happened to us on our way to Slovakia.
Fitting and comfort
C3 Pro is one of those helmets that fit instantly, do not need to get used to. It is simply comfortable and, more importantly, the lining has clearly improved, which is now not only nicer to the touch, but is also better absorbent and does not generate such unpleasant smells after riding in hot weather. The jaw clasp mechanism is fine and overall works well, but there are more efficient solutions on the market. A serious advantage of the C3 was the brilliant “all-eye” panoramic viewfinder. In C3 Pro the field of vision (I clearly mark that the field of vision e.g. when looking over your shoulder behind you) is a bit smaller, which doesn’t make it difficult in any way to make sure that nobody behind us e.g. started overtaking etc. The micro lock has also changed, which is now much more solid and strong, but still handy and quick to use.
To put it briefly and concisely, the Schuberth C3 Pro is a helmet that has many advantages and very few disadvantages. Like the C3, the C3 Pro is the perfect option for touring. The C triplet did not need to be improved, and yet Schuberth managed to improve a few things. If you care about solid workmanship, good materials and above all comfort, you will certainly not be disappointed. It is worth mentioning that we tested the C3 Pro with the bluetooth SRCS system, which we will introduce you in a separate publication in the near future. Helmet with this system is becoming a powerful tool for tourism, and the spectrum of its usefulness is growing even more. Nevertheless, the helmet itself is another good job done by Schuberth.

Shoei Neotec helmet is one of the best helmets I have ever ridden in. Uncompromising in performance and comfort. Unfortunately, it has one serious drawback – the price. I quietly hope that this is the price for a level of safety that I will never have to check.
In Neotec, I went through the whole previous season. What’s interesting – earlier I wasn’t convinced either of the jaws or the sunblind. Both the jaw lift and the blonde passed the test and now I can recommend these solutions to anyone.
Neotec surprised me not only with its low noise level, but also with the way it was suppressed. Even in the lowest setting of the glass, the sound of the flowing air was not overwhelming. This is probably the best helmet I’ve ever ridden in.
Interestingly, opening the ventilation ducts only slightly increases the noise level. What’s interesting is that lowering the sun blanket additionally silences the helmet.
Actually, there’s no position where Neotec would get into any kind of vibration. I didn’t notice any whistles, whistles or other strange phenomena usually accompanying cheap helmets.
Less than 1,400 g may not be much, but they’re better too. At first I thought that after a whole day of driving my neck would hurt, but it turned out that nothing like that happened. Maybe it’s because of the great aerodynamics, which allows the air stream to lift the helmet while driving.
Shoei helmets have always been famous for their wide field of vision. The Neoteca viewfinder is no exception – it is wider and taller, which in combination with optimal positioning in relation to the eyes gives excellent visibility.
What has so far annoyed me in expensive helmets is the insufficient protection of the viewfinder against evaporation. The standard anti-fog coating protection did not work and I had to pay extra for the pinlock system. Shoei Neotec helmet has a pinlock in standard equipment, and it is also adapted to this helmet model. The shape of the inner fast does not restrict the field of vision.
Neotec’s ventilation system is not only efficient but also simple. Here we have three separate ducts with large flaps that are easy to open with gloves even at high speed.
The inside of the helmet resembles a soft grandmother’s pillow. The lining material is comfortable, doesn’t irritate the skin and doesn’t get stuck. Replaceable cheek pads allow for precise adjustment of the interior to the shape of the face. Persuaded by the consultant, I decided (against myself and after long discussions) on a helmet, which seemed too tight to me. It turned out that it wasn’t me who was right: after a few days, the helmet “settled down”, perfectly matching the shape of the head.
The lining can be removed and washed in the washing machine. A big advantage of the Neotec helmet interior is the possibility of comfortable travel in glasses and although I do not ride in them myself, I did not miss to check it.

Helmet is one of the most important elements of motorcyclist’s equipment. It determines the safety and comfort of travelling. Every motorcyclist knows that a badly chosen helmet can take away all the pleasure from riding. So how to choose the perfect equipment for yourself? What to pay attention to when buying?
We all know that before we get on a motorcycle for the first time, we have to wear a helmet. Usually we do not think about what it kind of helmet should we use, but rather our aesthetic preferences and price (what we like and what we don’t like) and less often focus on common sense. And yet the choice of an appropriate motorcycle helmet should depend on what kind of motorcycle we have.
Just like motorcycles, helmets are also divided into different types. Although some helmets can be successfully used to ride on several types of machines, there are also helmets that should not be used when riding a particular type of motorcycle. I guess everyone will agree that there is nothing fun in driving in the track with an open helmet…
Types of motorcycle helmets
There are 4 basic types of motorcycle helmets:
- Full Face
- Open Face
Full Face Helmet (integral helmet)
Integral helmet (full face) is characterized by a compact, uniform body; relatively low weight and features good soundproofing level (when looking for quietest motorcycle helmet that might be the right bet for you). That kind of helmet is more quiet than the rest. It is the most universal and most frequently chosen motorcycle helmet, because it can be successfully used to ride a scooter, naked, classic, tourist and road bike. It is also the safest helmet due to its monolithic construction.
Integral helmets, in turn, can be divided into road and track (sports) helmets, which will differ mainly in shape and thus in the level of aerodynamics: helmets for track riding will be slightly extended to be the most optimal for riding in an inclined position. The shape of the shell also applies to the position of the visor – it is built in a bit higher so that we can see more when we lie down on the tank. Sports helmets have a DD clasp, which is required by the regulations of most sports competitions. Why do helmets designed for racing do not come with sunblinds? To maximize weight reduction, silence them and shorten the distance between the shell and face (aerodynamics). You can also use a tinted glass or a photochromatic viewfinder, which dims itself depending on the amount of sunlight. Some helmets can also have an external blur (of course on the road rather than on the track).
Modular helmet is undoubtedly the most comfortable helmet for motorcycle touring, it is also a universal helmet for city riding. Although they are heavier and louder than integral helmets due to the jaw opening mechanisms and the use of a sunblade, they compensate for their usefulness.
Frequent stops for a quick photo, a short break to replenish the fluid in the body or refueling at a gas station – all this can be done without removing the helmet, but only with raising the jaw. We can also ventilate ourselves while standing in the heat in a traffic jam or on lights. When it’s cold and rainy we don’t have to worry about getting cold. Having a double-ended helmet with double approval on hot days we can ride with our visor raised. Admittedly, in the long run, balancing the helmet becomes uncomfortable, but on short distances, in the city or on motorcycle parades it is a sensational solution.
Open Helmet – An open face helmet (open face, jet), as the name suggests, is a helmet with an open face, i.e. completely without a jaw. Preferred by owners of scooters, cruisers and choppers. Ideal for urban driving in summer due to its small size, very low weight, and above all excellent ventilation and visibility. It is good to have a long window: contrary to appearances, the rush of air (even though it is warm) can interfere with driving, about protecting our face against insects and, for example, splashing small stones, not to mention.
A sunscreen will also be useful. The disadvantage of a jet helmet is undoubtedly the complete lack of protection of the jaw, which in case of an unfortunate coincidence in the soil can have unpleasant consequences. So if you choose an open helmet, at least opt for one with extended cheeks.
A off-road helmet designed for off-road riding or supermoto: very light, without glass, providing good airflow, with built-in dust filters in the vents and mandatory with a canopy. The cross helmets have a characteristic shape with an elongated and quite firmly built in jaws.
For this type of helmet you have to additionally equip yourself with goggles, which will stick tightly to your face and protect your eyes. Goggles should be ventilated and equipped with anti-fog to prevent evaporation. Goggles can easily be equipped with skidding or the so-called film, which will quickly recover or improve visibility when splashing mud. That is why typical off-road helmets do not have a glass: during the madness of the terrain, it is difficult to get its transparency. For riding a motorbike of the tourist enduro type, enduro helmets are designed from cross-road helmets differ in the fact that they have a windshield.
What to pay attention to when buying quietest motorcycle helmet
Okay – we already know which helmet will be most suitable for us because of the type of motorcycle we’re going to be riding. Now the task is more difficult, because choosing the right brand and model, which in a way is equivalent to the amount of money we have to spend on our helmet. Certainly, most of the freshly bikers standing in front of a shelf full of various models of motorcycle helmets are wondering where the differences in their price come from.
1. helmet shell
The material of which a motorcycle helmet is made is a fundamental difference in quality, and thus also in its price. At the very bottom of the price pyramid we have all kinds of plastics and here, respectively, from the least to the most durable are: thermoplastic, ABS and polycarbonate (polycarbonate). So, if we choose something from the lower price range let’s at least go for the thermoplastic material.
The higher quality associated with greater safety and lower weight are laminates, and these are respectively: glass fibre, carbon (carbon fibre), Kevlar and composites, i.e. mixtures of laminates in various proportions (currently it is the most advanced technology of helmet shells production). For riding a sports motorcycle, it is worth investing at least in a fiberglass helmet.
Good visibility is also very important – the better we see, the safer it is. A good viewfinder is one that is easy to open and scratch-resistant. And one that won’t break down and hurt us in an accident… The viewfinder in a motorcycle helmet is usually made of Plexiglas or a bit more resistant material – lexan. If we are talking about a viewfinder It is good when it does not get foggy, otherwise driving in rainy weather or in low temperature is a nuisance and becomes even impossible. Therefore, the viewfinder should be equipped with antifog or even better – in Pinlock.
3 The lining
The lining of the helmet also affects its price. The more comfortable, the higher the helmet price. There are 2 types of lining: standard and thermo-active. Comfort also affects the ability to maintain hygiene inside the helmet: the standard lining (cotton) will make your head sweat more and more difficult to clean (dirt and moisture will be absorbed). The thermal liner has the ability to wick moisture away, so sweat will not flood our eyes and the interior will stay fresh and clean longer. Is it important that the liner is removable – It can then be easily washed or even replaced (at least partially). The comfort of the interior will also be taken care of by removable or inflatable cheeks or adjustment for glasses.
When choosing a helmet, apart from the already mentioned aspects, it is also worth taking into account whether it has a sunblind (opinions about its usefulness are divided), what kind of fastening was used (the simplest one: a latch, the most comfortable one: microlock, the safest one: DD), whether there is room for installing the intercom. If a helmet from the auction portal falls into your hands for a penny it certainly won’t have the certificate. Such a helmet is not only money (although small, but still) thrown into the mud, but most of all exposing yourself to catastrophic consequences in case of an accident.
